The results of the first UIS innovation data collection are now available in the UIS Data Centre,
covering 64 countries. This is the first time that a database with
innovation indicators from countries at different stages of development
has been produced and made publicly available.

Country-level data covering
innovation in manufacturing were gathered in order to produce the
statistics. Key innovation indicators include the percentage of firms
that implemented product, process, organizational and marketing
innovations, as defined in the third edition of the Oslo Manual.
The results are broken down
by manufacturing industry and size class. The database also includes
indicators about the activities and linkages that firms made use of, as
well as the obstacles they typically faced, in order to innovate.
The UIS worked closely with
its partners to collect the data and release the innovation database,
including the African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (ASTII) Initiative by the AU/NPCA, Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Union), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Ibero-American Network of Science and Technology Indicators (RICYT).
As a complement to the
innovation indicators, the UIS will publish metadata from each country,
including the methodological procedure of national surveys, to be
followed by an analytical report.
