New UIS Data on R&D

The UIS global database has been updated with the latest data on the human and financial resources devoted to research and experimental development (R&D) for 162 countries and territories. The release includes final data for the 2017 reference year and time series data for two global indicators used to monitor SDG 9:

· R&D expenditure as a proportion of GDP (Indicator 9.5.1)  

· Researchers per 1 million inhabitants (Indicator 9.5.2)

Results of the 2016 UIS Education Survey Now Available

The data release includes new and updated data and indicators to support the monitoring of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) and the Education 2030 Agenda.

Consult the latest education data in the UIS database.
Users can build custom tables by taking the following steps:

• Select Education (full dataset)
• Click Customise>Selection>All Dimensions
• Select countries, time and data items
• Click View Data to generate a table

UIS launches eAtlas for Education 2030

The new eAtlas for Education 2030 brings together all available data to monitor the Sustainable Development Goal on education (SDG 4). This ground-breaking initiative covers a wide range of issues about access to education, the quality of the education on offer and the results for children and young people. Through a series of interactive maps, it presents the global and thematic indicators for each SDG 4 target as well as ‘placeholders’ for indicators not yet available. It is currently available in English and Spanish and a French version is forthcoming.

Entitled Opportunities Lost: The Impact of Grade Repetition and Early School Leaving, the Digest presents a wide range of UIS data and indicators to better identify the millions of children that are falling through the cracks in education systems and leaving school, often without being able to read or write.  The report is complemented by an online interactive tool allowing users to visualise repetition and dropout rates by grade in the region and country of their choice.
